Do’s and Dont’s: Microwave Edition

Thinking of owning a Microwave or already do and would like to know the things you should and shouldn’t do?

1. Only use microwave-safe containers or glass. Aluminum or metals in the microwave can cause sparks which can potentially lead to a fire. It’s just not worth it. For plastics, you should only use the ones labeled as “Microwave Safe” as they are designed to withstand the heat, others can release harmful chemicals into your food.

2. Cover your food. Why? Well, this won’t prevent it from splattering and also helps to keep moisture inside. It allows the distribution of heat more evenly and retains the flavor.

3. Protect your hands by using oven mitts or gloves. The last thing you want is to test if you can hold hot things like your mom. Safety first

4. Eggs? Don’t microwave them in their shells please. They’ll explode

5. Use containers that aren’t completely sealed or airtight. Reason? Well, when you heat up sealed containers, the pressure can build up and cause them to burst or explode. Use microwave safe containers with vents or open lids to allow steam to escape.
